Tactics as habits
Each theme is a pattern to scan for — then drill from your own games. Quality motifs, not thousands of empty URLs.
- Chess forks
One piece, two problems. Forks win games at every level — especially when you forget to ask what a knight can jump to.
- Chess pins
A pin turns a piece into a passenger. Learn when it’s absolute, when it’s relative, and when you should pile attackers instead of capturing immediately.
- Chess skewers
Opposite of a pin: the VIP stands in front. Force it to step aside and collect the piece behind.
- Discovered attacks
Move one piece — reveal another. Discoveries win material when you ask what your battery is aiming at before you shuffle.
- Back-rank mate
A king trapped behind its own pawns falls to a rook or queen on the back rank. Make luft — or punish those who don’t.
- Hanging pieces
Most “tactics losses” start as a free piece. Train the scan until unprotected units light up before you move.
